Holika Holika Prime Miracle Snail Emulsion

9 Jul

I got the Holika Holika Prime Snail Emulsion in one of my Gmarket hauls. I got it because I have been curious of this line, I was in need of an emulsion at that time and I like anything snail.

the box (I’m sorry for the reflection)

the bottle (doesn’t it look like a space ship? :))

First Impressions: The box looks chic and even the packaging itself is pretty, despite it being made from plastic. It comes with a pump (I forgot to take a picture of it), so it is very hygienic.

ingredients

Description: From the box – Total solution emulsion, which the included mucin found from the skin restoration effect of snail solves mixture of problems [sic]. I also found this description from anย ebayย seller: It controls dullness of skin, wrinkles, and trouble marks and contains 65% of snail mucin.

Directions for use: Pump an adequate amount of the product and apply it onto face after toner. Lightly pat your face for quick absorption.

Smell: I don’t like its strong smell which reminded me of a Chinese medicated cream like Chin Chun Su Facial Cream.

Consistency: It’s a little thick compared to typical emulsions that I own (which tend to be more liquid-y). It feels a bit heavy on the face, as if there’s no room for the skin to breathe. Even with air-condition on, I sweat as soon as I apply this on my face.

and absorbed

Experience with the product: Unfortunately, my face itched and broke out the first time I applied it. I gave it another chance after two weeks and used it only at night. Surprisingly, I don’t wake up an oily mess which is always good. It brightened my face, too. Although it gave me a temporary glow, that’s the only noticeable result I had experienced. I still get breakouts from using it that’s why I don’t use it that often.

*Please note that my personal review of this product might be different to yours, considering our different skin conditions (mine is oily and sensitive), weather conditions (it is hot and humid everyday in Bangkok), and whatnot. I am just sharing what I have personally experienced with two month’s use of this product.

ย I am still using the Holika Holika Prime Miracle Snail Emulsion but I don’t use it that often anymore.

Have you tried this product before or any products infused with snail mucin? What is your experience? Care to share?

My Two Weeks in (Nail Polish) Colour

2 Jul

I was clearing and organizing my nail polish stash when I realised I haven’t used at least a third of the bottles in my collection. Some nail polishes were just swatched or used only once. I definitely need to show them some lovin’ so I decided to change my nail polish colour at least twice a week.

So here are the colours I wore for the past two weeks:

LA Colors Color Craze Polish 2011 Aztec Orange

Ordered from Cherry Culture, I have just recently used this. This nail polish actually looks redder ย in real life but my camera picked it as orange (well, it is named Aztec Orange, right?) because it has gold flecks. I liked its consistency – thin but not watery; it was an easy and quick application. It came a little sheer than what I have expected but three coats can do the job. I only used two coats, though. Be careful when you smell it (I have a tendency to smell things, lol) because its typical nail polish scent is so strong and heady. Anyway, I changed it before it chipped so I can’t tell you exactly how long it could have lasted.

Price: US$ 1.50 + shipping

Availability: I purchased it online but I saw it at one of the malls here (with limited colours) and is priced at approximately US$ 10.00

Tony Moly BK01

This is the first time in my life to wear a black nail polish (not counting the black crack nail polishes I used before) and I was surprised that I liked it. It made my hand looked so bright, too so thumbs up for this. The Tony Moly BK01 is a creamy nail polish but it was a breeze to use, it never came out streaky. I used two coats with base and top coats.

Price: THB 90.00 (approx. US$ 3.00)

Availability: It can be found in Tony Moly shops and online.

Revlon Fearless

Revlon Fearless is also a creamy nail polish which is so pigmented. I only used one coat and the colour is similar as the bottle. This red nail polish may have a hint of orange in it but so far, this is one of my favourite red nail polishes. Its consistency is a little thick but it was easy to apply considering its formulation. One thing I don’t like about it is its small narrow and rounded brush but I’m sure it can work out somehow like I did. I actually got a lot of compliments when I wore this at work.

Price: THB 139.00 (approx. US$ 4.50)

Availability: It is sold at selected drugstores and Revlon counters in leading department stores.

The fourth nail polish I used is Holika Holika No.11, it is a creamy gray nail polish.ย I already made a separate post about it hereย so please check it out if you want to see how it looks.

If you would ask me what my favourite among the four is, it is the Tony Moly BK01. I was just surprised that a black nail polish would suit me and that I didn’t get any bad comment from the people around me, like it was just so natural. ๐Ÿ™‚ The colour was a little flattering for my skin tone too. It did not only make my hands look brighter and fairer, but it was of good quality and reasonable price, too.

Do you like to apply nail polish? What’s your current favourite? Care to share?

Hope you all have a good week ahead!

Skinfood Nail Vita BR608

15 Jun

After a week of glittery nails, I settled for a plain, nude nail polish because I have to attend a trade show for work. I still have quite a few unused nude nail polish and I chose my bottle from Skinfood. It’s called Skinfood Nail Vita BR608.

Colour: I call this colour, cappuccino, because it looks like one ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s light brown and almost nude.

Smell: It smells like a regular nail polish.

Consistency: It is a toss between runny and sticky which made application a breeze. It is a little sheer and I guess three coatings would give a creamier and opaque appearance. ย I only used two with a top coat.

Brush: The brush is rounded and narrow (sorry, I forgot to take a picture).

Swatches:

Taken in different lightings

Staying Power: I was surprised that it did not chip even until the 6th or 7th day, albeit signs of cracks show which are hardly noticeable.

cracked but not chipped

Availability: It is available in Skinfood shops and counters in selected department stores. Skinfood products can be also ordered through online sellers based here in Thailand and anywhere else ๐Ÿ˜‰

Comment/s:ย I haven’t worn a nude nail polish in a long time so I was surprised that I liked how it looked on my nails. My nails looked clean all the time and I feel such a lady, you know, prim and proper ๐Ÿ˜‰

Will I buy again/ Do I recommend?: Yes, especially if you are looking for an everyday work “wear” colour and quality is tops, too.

Have you tried this nail polish before? Care to share?

Happy weekend, everyone!

Peripera My Color Lips No.21 Soul Pink

14 Jun

First of all, I’d like to say thank you to cocochanel for suggesting to review this lipstick and at the same time, my apologies for this late blog post.

Anyway, I’d like to introduce you all to Peripera My Color Lips No.21 (Soul Pink) lipstick. I got this lipstick when I went to South Korea months ago. I haven’t known of this brand before but I often see people buy this from Gmarket so I got curious. I took a chance to check it out when I saw it at a cosmetic outlet.ย I actually intended this to be a present for someone else but I decided to keep it for myself.

First Impression/s: Describing it as pretty is an understatement! It is amazing how this company paid a lot of attention to its aesthetics and packaging. Can you notice the details in the pink lipstick cap (cover?) which is engraved with flowers and if you are into pink, then you will be completely sold to this product! It looks really chic, too.

Scent: It has a faint rose fragrance. Once you apply it onto your lips, the smell fades so you don’t have to worry if you’re not into rose scents.

Hue: It’s No.21 – Soul Pink (I can’t read Korean but I checked the name online). As the name suggests, it is pink, a nude-y rose pink with tiny gold flecks. Its colour is very much similar to my lip colour, only it’s prettier.

natural lighting

with flash

Consistency/ Formulation: The lipstick is creamy and highly pigmented. It is a little shimmery because of the tiny, tiny gold flecks. Even without a lip balm, the lipstick was very smooth when applied on the lips. It is not drying, either.

Swatches:

Top: natural light with flash (swatch – shimmery light pink)

Middle: natural light without flash (swatch – looks more reddish pink)

Bottom: indoors with flash (swatch – old rose/nude-ish pink)

Staying Power: I rarely eat nor drink two hours after I wear it so it stays around that time. I haven’t worn it for a long time to test the amount of time it can last.

Price: KRW15,000 (approximately USD13)

Availability: It’s not available in Bangkok. It can be ordered online through Gmarket, though.

Do I recommend/ Will I buy again?: Yes. Its quality is worth your money, not to mention the really attractive packaging. I really regretted not buying more colours.

Have you tried this lipstick before? How do you like it? Care to share?

Friday is coming, hope we all have a lovely weekend!

The Face Shop Mini Pet Floral

19 May

I always drop by The Face Shop shop whenever I see one. Declaring (repeatedly!) that The Face Shop is one of my favourite brands is an obvious understatement. Anyway, one lunchtime when I couldn’t resist going to the mall, I knew I had to check out The Face Shop even though I don’t need anything.

And then I saw this (I actually have three – one I gave away and the other one is still unopened)…

The Face Shop Mini Pet Floral

The Mini Pet Floral is an uber-cutely packaged hand cream which was launched here around 2-3 months ago. Aside from Floral, there are actually three more variants – Fruit, Baby and the newest one, Sweet.

First Impressions: The cute package with a kitty peeking out the pot is so adorable to ignore. Though it may look bulky, it is really small at around 2 inches in height and the base measures at 1 inch in diameter. It can easily be tucked into my big office purse so the mini pet comes with me to work. It is a little unhygienic though as I have to dip my fingers in the pot every time I apply the hand cream.

Scent: The Mini Pet series is a perfumed hand cream. According to The Face Shop Thailand Facebook, Floral is inspired by Dior’s “Addict to Life”. I haven’t really smelled that perfume but Mini Pet Floral does not contain that overpoweringly heady floral scent. I’m not really into floral scents (well, except for cherry blossoms!) but this one is very mild and with only little hints of flower scents (but I can’t figure out what flowers they actually are).

Hand Cream: It does not really moisturise or soften my hands that much but it can counter the effects of the drying hand wash we have in our office toilet, so it’s good and helpful enough for me.

Price: THB245 (at 30 grams) =approximately US$8.50 It is probably reasonable if for the novelty of the packaging but there should be similarly-priced hand creams with better moisturising effects.

Availability: The Mini Pet hand creams are available at The Face Shop. There are several The Face Shop shops that can be found in Bangkok and other areas.

Do I recommend/ buy again? Yes, if you like cutely-packaged products but if you are looking for a moisturising hand cream, the mini pet may not be the one for you. And will I buy again? I have an unused one, remember? ๐Ÿ˜‰

*** I realised that it will be such a waste to just chuck it in the recycling bin when I finish so I’ll recycle it myself and make it as a paper weight. Do you think it’s a good idea? ๐Ÿ™‚

What’s your favourite hand cream? Care to share?

Hope you’re all enjoying your Saturday!
