My Gmarket (EMS) Package Got Taxed AGAIN

16 Oct

I am expecting my Gmarket haul this morning. I was worried I wouldn’t get my package AGAIN like what happened last week. And then, what I feared happened for the second time. All I got today was the claim stub indicating the amount I have to pay to get my package.

My order this time weighs 3.4kgs (last week was only 1.3kg) which is small compared to other hauls from other countries I read from different blogs. I really don’t know how things are done at the Thai Post Office or Customs or whatever. The EMS Call Center can’t tell me the reason behind the additional payment. It could be random and I got VERY lucky twice. Paying customs duty and tax I know is a legal responsibility but paying for two packages in a row is just too much for me, including the effort, time and additional expense of picking them up at the post office. It is just so frustrating. Part of the reason I do online shopping is the joy of receiving the package but all that’s been happening is the contrary, which is additional hassle and expense.

What could the reasons be? Do they think I’m gonna sell the items I ordered? Is it because the packages were sent via EMS? My packages sent by registered mail are delivered to me without any complications, but then again these packages don’t exceed 1kg. Oh, I remember a DHL package, sent to me five years ago, was taxed too. I really have no clue why I am being asked to pay customs duty and tax. Does anyone (who lives in Thailand) have a similar post office experience?

*sigh*

I think this is a sign to curb my Gmarket addiction. I was actually just waiting for this upcoming package to arrive before I purchase from the site again but I think I have to slow it down a bit. I can’t take any more of the complicated postal system for now.

Maybe next month again? 😉 I am not sure. I really don’t want my package to be taxed again. If only Gmarket has another shipping option then I can compare shipping types and test how the postal system works here.

The Drama of My Gmarket Purchase

13 Oct

Date Ordered and Paid: September 28

Date Shipped: October 8

Date Delivered: October 11

It was an unsuccessful delivery so I have to get the package from the post office.

Date Received: October 12

This Gmarket purchase is by far the most eventful among my years of shopping online. It started with one of the items in my order sent late. Imagine this, I ordered and paid on the 28th of September but they delivered to the Gmarket warehouse only on the 7th of October. What was worse is that Gmarket did not answer my e-mails promptly, I was e-mailing and messaging them on the site almost every day but I did not  get any feedback (all my e-mails were answered when the parcel was already shipped). I even messaged the seller and I was told that it was already sent to Gmarket. I never really know what happened in between. At least, I already got it, right?

So, my parcel was delivered on October 11th BUT it was an unsuccessful delivery… I thought I was able to rejoice for finally receiving it but, alas! I have to pick it up at the post office and I have to pay customs duty and tax, oh even for delivery fee. It is only a 1.38kg parcel with items that only amount to USD30 that’s why I don’t get  it why I have to pay those additional fees. It is a tiny and light box and only a tad bigger than my melissa shoes box (check picture above)

My total order was only USD30 + USD15 for shipping (I even incurred a negative balance on Gaccount because I have to pay shipping surcharge) + USD30 (customs duty, tax, delivery fee, and taxi to the post office). I asked the EMS guy why I have to pay those fees but he said the Customs only does random checks and I was lucky (not his word) to have my parcel checked.

Anyway, enough with the ramblings. Or not… Check out the picture below and notice that the Customs opened my box and one of the boxes in the box.

Upon opening the box, you can see three separate packages. It contains…

… a small beige bag, 4 sets of IOPE Hydro Intense Softener and Emulsion samples and 2 tubs of Secret Key Snail + EGF Repairing Gel Cream (I got this on a buy one get one free promotion). I received no freebies or gwps.

Let’s take a closer look at my purchases.

IOPE Hydro Intense Softener and Emulsion

I got the IOPE samples from this seller and this is the link to the product.
The items are in good condition but there was 1/3 empty space in the box where the four sets were kept.
I have yet to test the products.

You can find this product here. (I think they sell this at a cheaper price now).

The Secret Key Snail + EGF Repairing Gel Cream was the culprit of my parcel’s late shipment.

This is also the reason why my order exceeded its weight.

This product wasted two-thirds of the box’s space. I actually put IOPE’s box here and it fit.

This box was also opened by Thailand Customs and I really wonder, up to now, what of this item made them decide to ask for customs duty and tax (Yeah, I still can’t get over the fact that I paid extra for this little haul).

I have used the product for one night so I still can’t tell what effects it has on my skin.

Beige Bag

I got this bag from this seller.

The bag looks alright, right? Look closely, though.

Upon close inspection in the bag’s buckle part, I noticed a tiny tear which I’m afraid might peel after some use. Some stitches are sewn messily and the buckle seems lopsided, too. This is a disappointing buy and I was really excited for this. Oh well, I got this at a cheap price but still… it’s just frustrating to receive a damaged item.

So, yeah, this is the drama of this Gmarket purchase. I am expecting another package arriving soon which is a bigger and heavier one. I just hope and pray that the post office won’t detain it *crossing fingers*. Anyway, albeit the drama and the extra payments, I will still continue shopping at Gmarket. I just love browsing at the site and I am tempted to buy all the time. I just hope though that everything will be a breeze and hassle-free next time.

Have you shopped at Gmarket?

Cheers!

Ebay Shopping No.2: Glitter and Shimmer Eyeshadows

12 Oct

Ebay Seller: edeal8

Date of Order and Payment: September 15

Date of Shipment: September 16

Date Received: October 11

I finally received this small ebay package yesterday. This was actually my first ebay purchase but it arrived really late. Well, I shouldn’t be complaining for I did not pay for shipping anyway. But I really panicked after the 2nd week of not receiving my order so I messaged the seller. She explained that packages from China really take long to arrive; she added that I have to inform them should I not receive it in 31-43 days! Whoa! That’s a looong time! I told the seller that I can wait. I really have no right to complain because it was shipped for free considering the price of the item. This is a pretty cheap purchase anyway 🙂

So what’s inside? Tadaaa!

It’s a dozen Lanmei glitter and shimmer eyeshadows I got here. Some sellers have a cheaper lot but they don’t ship to Thailand so I got these instead. I really have no expectations for this purchase because this is a first ebay purchase, so it’s more of a trial buy. I checked the reviews though and so far, these eyeshadows are fairly rated. The lot consisted of 6 glitter eyeshadows (or should I say, pure glitters) and 6 shimmer eyeshadows; both types are in powder form. The glitter ones are pure glitters and I will have no use for them, unless I go to costume parties, perform in a concert and the like, 😀

Here are the shimmer eyeshadows and their swatches (pls pardon the picture quality which do not give justice to the eyeshadows)…

*with flash*

*no flash*

I did not use an eye primer but I can tell, it’s really obvious too, that the shimmer eyeshadows are bright and pigmented. I haven’t tried them so I can’t say if they will last on my really oily face or not but I am satisfied with the shimmer eyeshadows. Oh, except for the white pot, it’s not a shimmer one, it just looks like flour haha 😛

Oh here’s a size comparizon of the Lanmei eyeshadow pot with my Lovely ME:EX and MAC eyeshadows.  Lanmei is the smallest of the three 🙂

small, smaller, smallest 🙂

I am satisfied with the quality of the eyeshadows even if I can only make use of the five out of the 12.  Maybe someday I can find a reason to use the glitter eye shadows, too.

By the way, the eyeshadows  colours are given out randomly, so you can’t tell what colour or what type you will get (one thing for sure is that you’ll get the glitter ones as they are labeled as such). This is a pretty inexpensive lot anyway, so it’s alright. The waiting time and opening-the-package-to-see-what-you-get is part of the surprise 🙂

Have you tried purchasing off ebay? What did you get?

Cheers!

Gmarket Discounted Shipping Charges

11 Oct

It is really addicting shopping at Gmarket.  Based in Korea, Gmarket is an online marketplace where anything that you need or may not even need can be found there – cosmetics, clothes, shoes, camera, house ware, stationery, accessories, and a looot more. For the past few months now, I have been surfing the site and checking all kinds of stuff. Buying make up and skin care products, along with other things, at Gmarket is relatively inexpensive especially if compared to their regular retail price here in Bangkok. Most items are cheaper by 50%, if not more, at Gmarket.

The shipping charges, though is a different story. Gmarket ships their items by EMS so they may seem a bit steep. But receiving your order in a matter of days  is definitely a plus, right? Recently, Gmarket announced an increase of 8.7% in EMS charges here.

But when I checked today, Gmarket is offering up to 50% EMS Shipping to Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and all Region 1 countries (Cambodia, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam).  I live in Region 1 so I can avail of it. Yay! More shopping to do… oops 😡

This offer is valid from now until November 10th (18.00 GMT+9). Here is the link to the good news:

Online Shopping… Again :)

iheartkoreanbeauty little parcel

Yes, I am one impatient girl. Since my parcels from my ebay and Gmarket shopping haven’t arrived yet, I decided to buy a few things from Zhen of http://iheartkoreanbeauty.mybigcommerce.com/. I made my order on October 1st and received the parcel on October 8th. She posted the parcel on the 5th and I got it so quick. Not that I am complaining 😉

It is always a breeze ordering from Zhen, she is accommodating and regularly communicates with me; she also sends me photos of the parcel before sending them. She is also generous with samples and indulges me with freebies albeit a small purchase.

Anyway, let’s look inside the little box. You can see that all items are properly bubble-wrapped so you are assured that the products are safe from breakage or spillage.

Skin79 Special Clear Set

Charmzone Red Wine Set (Sample Size)

 the saem BB Cream

 Baviphat Snail Cure Mask Sheet

I haven’t tried any of the products since I just got them last Sunday.  I am keen to try the Baviphat Snail Cure Mask Sheet, though. I know there is currently a snail craze in the skin care world and I wanna join in the bandwagon hehe. I am actually eyeing the It’s Skin Creme d’Escargot since I have read rave reviews about the product. It’s a bit pricey but if it works on my oily/acne/sensitive skin, why not, right? 🙂

Like I said earlier, the seller is generous with samples…

Samples!

… and freebies! Well, I asked Zhen if I can have one Lee Seung Gi postcard and she was kind enough to include not only one but three (!) postcards. Yay! Thanks so much!

Lee Seung Gi is ❤

I know I am on shopping detox but I just can’t help myself. I am still waiting for my ebay and 2 Gmarket packages but I.should.stop.until.I.get.my.second.Gmarket.purchase.  😀
