Myeongdong

From Wikipedia: Myeongdong is one of Seoul’s main shopping districts featuring mid-to-high priced retail stores and international brand outlets, including Lacoste, Polo Ralph Lauren, Forever 21, Bulgari, Louis Vuitton and Nature Republic. It is a particularly popular area for young people and tourists as a center for fashion and sight-seeing.Several large shopping centers and department stores are in the district including Lotte Department Store, Shinsegae Department Store, Migliore, M Plaza, and Noon Square. The floating population of Myeongdong is estimated to be around 2 million a dayand in terms of floorspace rents, Myeongdong is one of the most expensive shopping districts in the world. Many hotels, restaurants, cinemas, theaters, and historical sites complete the diverse mixture of the area.Seoul’s financial hub is divided between here and Yeouido where the Korea Stock Exchange is located. Major insurance, securities, financial services companies, and investment firms with headquarters in Myeongdong include Citibank, SK Corporation, Kookmin Bank, Korea Exchange Bank, Lone Star Funds, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, AIG Korea Insurance, Hana Bank, and HSBC. The Bank of Korea is also in the vicinity.

Other notable landmarks in Myeongdong include the Chinese Embassy, YWCA headquarters, UNESCO Hall, Myeongdong Theater, and the oldest Catholic cathedral in Korea, Myeongdong Cathedral.

Except for early morning and late night delivery hours, the main street and most of the alleys are blocked off for pedestrians to roam freely without being hindered by traffic.

Below are the photos I took:

I was not able to take a lot of photos in Myeongdong because I was rushing in and out of the shops. Myeongdong is not only a shopping haven but it is a feast for the senses – the colourful and many shops and products, different streetfood hawkers, music blaring in shops, and the list goes on. Going around Myeongdong is hazardous to your wallet, though 😉 I guess it was a blessing in disguise for us to have shopped there for just a couple of hours 😉 If ever I go back to Seoul, I would love to get lost in Myeongdong all day 🙂

 Cheers! 🙂

Kpop Keepsakes

2 Nov

Some of the perks of buying Korean brand make up and skincare products are the samples and freebies. Some of the freebies come in the form of post cards, folders, pens, umbrellas, make up kits, brushes, CD and the list goes on… Well, I buy for the product and not for the freebie but if I get something complimentary, it makes me really happy 🙂 Who doesn’t love a freebie, anyway.

If you are such a Kpop follower and fan, it is a PLUS if your “idol” endorses a certain brand because more often than not, the freebie given away would contain their pictures or autographs so these things are really good addition to your collection. I know it’s also a marketing ploy to attract the fans but it works 😉

I don’t consider myself a die-hard fan but as you may have read here in my blog I do love shopping so I have collected a few items and kept them as souvenirs, hehehe.

I got the CN Blue plastic folder and the membership card when I (naturally!) became a member at Holika Holika.

It is not actually a freebie but a paper bag with Jang Geun Seuk’s face when I shopped a few items at Nature Republic.

Kim Hyun Joong’s Breakdown mini-album is by far the best freebie I got from The Face Shop. The membership card also bears his handsome face.

I ❤ Lee Seung Gi that’s why I asked for these post cards hehe.

I also kept this Tony Moly plastic bag with Song Joong Ki’s face. The card with his and Ga In’s face is the “unknown” card given to me by Tony Moly when I shopped through Gmarket.

Well, Hyun Bin is not really a Kpop idol but I got these post cards and fridge magnet when we watched the premier night of “Come Rain, Come Shine” here in Bangkok.

I don’t really display these items but I do safe-keep them. I got a knack for collecting knick knacks and the Kpop souvenirs just become part of my collection :).

Nature Republic in Bangkok

16 Sep

I never knew that there’s a Nature Republic  in Bangkok. Funny that they have been in Thailand for two years now. Where was I hiding? Anyway, it was my first time to visit their branch at Center One in Victory Monument area. I admit that I am not that familiar with the products though I know that Rain and the trio, JYJ endorse the brand.

A big poster/ standee of Jang Geun Seuk is right by the entrance (so he is an endorser, too); this alone is enough reason to attract shoppers to enter the store. I just browsed quickly as my workmates were waiting for me at an ice cream shop. I don’t really need anythin, too as I just went to The Face Shop the other night but I still got a nail polish, a green tea nail polish remover and collagen mask sheets.

I would like to rave about the sales assistants in the shop because they are really attentive and patient with my questions despite the language barrier. I buy more products at other shops yet they are not that accommodating. Another thing that I like is the price; I am not really certain about this but it seems that the price is not that marked up as compared to other imported brands.  Oh, I got samples, too 🙂

I got Color Day Green Tea Nail Remover (60baht), Color Waltz BL503 (70baht), 5Derma Collagen Solution Mask (3 for 100baht – it’s on promo), and White Therapy Toner and Emulsion samples.
