Skinfood Nail Vita BR608

15 Jun

After a week of glittery nails, I settled for a plain, nude nail polish because I have to attend a trade show for work. I still have quite a few unused nude nail polish and I chose my bottle from Skinfood. It’s called Skinfood Nail Vita BR608.

Colour: I call this colour, cappuccino, because it looks like one 🙂 It’s light brown and almost nude.

Smell: It smells like a regular nail polish.

Consistency: It is a toss between runny and sticky which made application a breeze. It is a little sheer and I guess three coatings would give a creamier and opaque appearance.  I only used two with a top coat.

Brush: The brush is rounded and narrow (sorry, I forgot to take a picture).

Swatches:

Taken in different lightings

Staying Power: I was surprised that it did not chip even until the 6th or 7th day, albeit signs of cracks show which are hardly noticeable.

cracked but not chipped

Availability: It is available in Skinfood shops and counters in selected department stores. Skinfood products can be also ordered through online sellers based here in Thailand and anywhere else 😉

Comment/s: I haven’t worn a nude nail polish in a long time so I was surprised that I liked how it looked on my nails. My nails looked clean all the time and I feel such a lady, you know, prim and proper 😉

Will I buy again/ Do I recommend?: Yes, especially if you are looking for an everyday work “wear” colour and quality is tops, too.

Have you tried this nail polish before? Care to share?

Happy weekend, everyone!

Cheers 🙂

Revlon Whimsical

18 Apr

I finally got my hands on a Revlon Whimsical! Yay! I wasn’t expecting to see one at Watson’s but I was glad I did 🙂

Here’s a quick post with swatches using essence gel-look top coat and my Skinfood Gunnpang Nail (a matte top coat). I used Boots 17 Bolt from the Blue as the base colour since Whimsical is also more of a pastel blue colour.

I only used one coat of Revlon Whimsical since I don’t like to many glitters but I will try with a double or triple coat next time.

no top coat used

I was disappointed with the 17 Bolt from the Blue because it was so thick and sticky which makes the application hard to manage. It got streaky, too.  This is my first time to try a 17 nail polish so I can’t really compare with the others. I reckon, though, that the bottle given to me was old (I just forgot to take a picture).  I don’t think I’ll be using it again but I just couldn’t be bothered returning it to Boots. I’m not sure how customer services works in Boots, more so with returning a used nail polish.

 with essence gel-look top coat

essence gel-look top coat looks alright but I don’t think it made my nails extra shiny. It took forever to dry, too so bubbles formed. I thought it was dry after an hour but I still smudged my nail polish. My solution? I used Skinfood Gunnpang nail, a matte top coat. I just love this one because it dries fast and smoothens the streaky and smudged bits.

Products Used: Skinfood Nail Vita Base Coat, 17 Fast Finish Bolt from the Blue, Revlon Whimsical, essence gel-look topcoat, Skinfood Gunnpang Nail (not pictured but can be seen here)

I like Revlon Whimsical especially that it’s not overpoweringly glittery. I like the look of it thinly spread on the nails. I will be trying this again with a different base polish and top coat. I already got Revlon’s top speed top coat so I know I’ll be in good hands (pun unintended).

Have your tried Revlon Whimsical yet? Did you like it? Care to share?

Cheers 🙂

Revlon Top Speed Fast Dry Enamel Ocean

15 Apr

I haven’t bought a Revlon nail polish in a long time but when I saw Revlon Whimsical and Jaded in one of the blog posts, I know I have to get my hands on them, too. There was no Jaded at the drugstore but I was giddy with excitement when I saw Whimsical! I got Whimsical and other nail polish colours as well as Revlon Top Speed Fast Dry Enamel Ocean (that’s a mouthful!).

Description: Revlon Top Speed Fast Dry Enamel has “a built in top coat which delivers a salon smooth finish. Available in 32 cool colors that set in 60 seconds”.

I don’t own and haven’t really tried a dark green nail polish on my finger nails , especially for work, but since I’m on a holiday, I decided to give it a go. Revlon Ocean is actually a duochrome. It looks bright green with blue undertones, or shall I say, teal. It’s hard to capture it in my camera, though.

What I like most about it is that the colour makes my hand looks brighter and fairer. I was happy to get this colour.

Review

First Impressions: I’m always on a quest for fast drying nail polish so I was enamored by its “Top Speed” name. I kind of liked the silver brush handle which gives it a more chic look.

Consistency: Not watery nor thick, it was easy to manage but I had to act fast because it does dry quickly.

Colour: Shimmery duochrome – bright green/ teal

Smell: None

True to claim?: It dries fast so I have to be quick in my application. I don’t know why bubbles formed, though. Or perhaps, there was a fan when I did my nails? One coat of Ocean looks opaque enough but I suggest for a double layer to make the nail polish last longer. I didn’t know that no top coat is needed so I still used one.

bubbles formed 😦

Price: a little less than US$5.00

Durability: I changed my nail polish after three days even though there we no signs of chipping yet.

Availability: Revlon can be found in leading drugstores and department stores here in Thailand. I have seen the Ocean variant in a drugstore and two department stores I recently visited.

Will I purchase again?: I got two more Revlon nail polish and I will definitely repurchase new colours next time.

Two days after my manicure, I experimented to see how the shimmery Ocean would appear with a matte top coat. So, I used a layer of my Skinfood Gunnpang Nail over it.

… and I loved it! Applying a matte top coat gave the colour a different shade. Does it look more of a moss green colour?

Nail polish is love! Are you into Revlon nail polish as well? What’s your favorite so far? Care to share?

Cheers 🙂

When I’m Bored with My Nail Polish… #4

5 Apr

Some nail polishes last me more than 3 days and on days when I easily get bored with my nail colour yet lazy with doing the whole nine yards of cleaning my nails and changing the nail polish, I just think of ways to change the look of my nail polish. You can read the entries for No. 1 here, No. 2 here, and No. 3 here.

4. I attempt at nail art.

Tadaa!

This is my first ever attempt at a “proper” nail art. I know it’s not perfect and not very original but I was proud of myself. I never thought I could do something like this because I can be really clumsy at times. So, now… I’m inspired to try more. I have to perfect my dots first 😉

I was wearing my Skinfood Gunnpail Nail No.2 (matte hot pink) for three days and the nail polish on my thumb started to chip. At first, I planned to just use a crack nail polish to give it a different look but when I was youtube-surfing the other day, I found some dotting nail tutorials without the use of the proper dotting tool. It seemed easy so I wanted to give it a try.

I started with painting a black nail polish diagonally near the tip. I used a Tony Moly BK01.

I love the combination of colours, it’s so rock chick! It’s even beautiful just like that but I wanted to try creating the dots. I only have a random, brand-less white nail polish so that’s what I used. For making the dots, I used a wooden cuticle pusher. I have yet to get the hang of doing the dots  as round as they should be. The trick is actually to hold the dotting object vertically but I forgot so please bear with my dots 😉

All done!

I noticed that the matte nail polish looked so pretty with a glossy top coat on. But yeah, applying a glossy top coat over a matte nail polish defeats the purpose for the matte effect, right? 🙂

These are products I used:

Tony Moly BK01, white nail polish, Skinfood Gunnpang Nail No. 2, Anne & Florio top coat, wooden cuticle pusher, cuticle oil (not pictured)

On my next “nail dotting” experiment, I’ll use the bobby pin. Its rounded tips should make good dots.

Have you tried dotting your nails or doing nail art in general? Care to share your masterpiece?

Cheers 🙂

Skinfood Gunnpang Nail No. 2

3 Apr

On days when I go to the mall and that I have to at least buy something, I almost always get a new nail polish even though I still have a lot of new and unopened bottles. After walking around Siam Paragon and browsing the shops, I went to Skinfood and grabbed a few bottles of nail polishes and the Gunnpang Nail is one of them (when I got home I realised I already have a similar hot pink but the old one was not in matte).

The bottle bears a Skinfood sticker/ seal to prove authenticity.

A Brief Review:

First Impressions: It is small and cutely packaged, bottled in a clear matte glass. It bears the Skinfood sticker so the product is genuine. The label is written in Korean except for the nail polish’s name. There is also a sticker in Thai language (since I cannot read Thai, I’m not sure what it was. It might be details about the product, too).

One coat of Skinfood Gunnpang Nail No. 2

Colour: Matte hot pink

Smell: None

Consistency: It is thick, creamy and dries fast because it’s a matte nail polish. It tends to be streaky and messy to apply (or maybe it’s just me) but applying a matte top coat smoothens it out. One coat is enough but I applied two layers and a matte top coat from the same brand. There was a little shine to the nails when I applied the top coat, which is alright with me.

After two layers and a top coat

Price: THB120 (approximately US$4)

Availability: There are a lot of Skinfood shops in Bangkok alone. There might be other Skinfood branches in other parts of Thailand.

Will I purchase again?: I already got another bottle in matte brown.

I just applied hand cream in this picture so my nails don’t look too matte.

What do you think, do they look matte to you? Are you a fan of matte nail polishes? Care to share?

Cheers 🙂
