Nail Polish Haul

13 Apr

Hi everyone! Before I forget, I would like to greet you all “Happy Songkran Day”. April 13-15 is Songkran Festival which is the Thai New Year. It is a popular time for water fights  fun and merriments but it is first and foremost a religious and cultural celebration. I will explain more about Songkran in my next post 🙂

Anyway, our long holiday officially started yesterday. Since I don’t want to get wet when I go out for the next three days, I decided to visit the mall and buy some groceries. I did not only bring home a week’s supply of food but also 6 bottles of nail polish as well. It’s not like I ran out of nail polish but I really can’t just resist them.

After not paying attention to Revlon and 17 nail polish for quite a while and having bought a lot of different Korean-brand nail polish, I gave them another look yesterday. It was not a bad idea at all since I discovered new colours and got away with new bottles again.

Here’s my humble haul:

Whimsical – Hazy – Ocean

I was glad I browsed through the Revlon counters at Watsons and Siam Paragon because I have finally gotten ahold of Whimsical! There were new colours available, too but I only got these three.

Sweet Kisses – Bolt from the Blue – Pink Lemonade

I also went to Boots to check out some items. They have an ongoing  “Buy 2 Get 1 Free” promotion so I checked out what I can get. Instead of make up, I decided to get the 17 nail polish because I haven’t tried it before. There’s not a lot of choices, though.

Was I happy with my little loot? Of course I am! I can’t wait to try all six of them. I have used Revlon Ocean, though, and I’ll do a separate post about it.

What’s your current favourite nail polish brand or colour? Care to share?

Cheers 🙂

essence colour & go Where is the Party

11 Apr

Hi there! Here’s a quick post about a swatch of essence cosmetics’ colour & go nail polish, “Where is the Party”.

First Impressions: I love its holographic effect. It looks purpl-ish or green-ish in different angles and lightings or its a mix of the two colours together. I got it not only for the colour but also because the bottle indicates it is “a quick drying nail polish”.

Where is the Party on my nails

I admit that more than the holographic effect, I got this nail polish because of its claim to be “quick drying”. I experimented on it and applied the nail polish on my fingernails without a top coat. I let the nail polish dry on my fingernails and bubbles formed. I slept after leaving it for a little over an hour but I woke up in horror to see mattress marks on my nails. I was really disappointed 😦 I used the same nail polish on my toenails but I applied a layer of top coat. It was in good condition when I woke up!

I haven’t tried any other essence nail polishes so I can’t tell if the “quick drying” ones don’t really dry as fast as I expect them to be.  I guess a top coat should be almost always applied for a better result.

Consistency: Its consistency is thick but is manageable to apply.

Smell: Faint or close to none.

Price: I got it at around US$3.00.

Availability:  I have only seen essence cosmetics at Siam Paragon, I am not sure, though, if the sister malls of Siam Paragon carry essence, too.

Will I buy it again?: I am planning to get more essence nail polishes and try them out.

Have you tried essence nail polish before? Which ones do you recommend? Care to share?

Cheers 🙂

2012 Easter Haul

9 Apr

After hearing Mass yesterday, I decided to go to mall called Central Ladprao. It is a shopping mall that is located far from my church (12 stations away from the underground train) but I decided to go there because church ended before 10am and mall opening hours start at 10am. Precious time is not wasted waiting for the mall to open since it is already open when I arrived.

My sole purpose of going to the mall is to purchase a new TV so I went to different shops and checked out different brands and types of TV with their different features. As much as I already want to replace my coloured-now-black-and-white-later ancient TV, I hesitated to buy yet because I want to take advantage of the 7% VAT refund I can claim with purchases made two months before my travel in July. So, I still have one or two months for tv-hunting…

After checking out the TVs, I browsed from different shops to check out if there are any good deals available. I was happy to control buying more nail polishes and clothes but I was still able to get a few items from Nature Republic, Topshop (not pictured), Forever21, and from a little accessory booth outside the mall.

Here is my humble Easter 2012 haul:

Nature Republic

Real Nature Charcoal Peel-off Pack, Original Power Blemish Ampoule, Fresh Deodorant Spray

Nature Republic

Given by Flower Cherry Blossom Mask Sheets, Snail Therapy Mask Sheet (a freebie), Nail Design Sticker, Jelly Drop Gloss

Forever21 love & beauty 3x magnifying mirror & tweezer set and earrings

I just got them all yesterday so I haven’t used most of the items except for the Blemish Ampoule and mirror set. Please let me know if you are interested for any product review.

Enjoy your Monday! Cheers 🙂

Bashful Purple

Anne & Florio No. 71

I would like to introduce you to my new nail polish, Anne & Florio No. 71. I picked this from a Beauty Buffet shop; this company is based in Thailand selling a wide range of products – from make up, skincare and nail polishes to brushes and accessories. The lay out of the shop is pretty and bright with most of its products cutely packaged and relatively inexpensive. I’ll try to take a picture of the shop next time 🙂 I used to own a few Anne & Florio nail polishes and this light purple colour (No. 71) is the newest one I got.

Here’s a quick review:

First Impressions: I love the colour! I got this at a time when I was into nudes and simple neutral colours.

Colour: Pale glossy purple

Smell: None

Consistency: Its consistency is light, a little watery but manageable. One coat will be a little sheer. I used two layers with a top coat. I removed the nail polish after two days so I can’t tell how long it could have lasted before it chipped.

taken with no flash

Price: THB65 (approximately USD2)

Availability: There are many Beauty Buffet shops scattered around the country. Some can be found in shopping malls and the others at BTS Skytrain stations. According to its website, there are 71 Beauty Buffet branches in Thailand.

Will I purchase again?: Yes, but I will get a different colour next time.

I wanted to show the number/ variant of the nail polish at the bottom of the bottle but my camera didn’t capture it 🙂

Are you into pale colours too? What is your favourite nail polish colour? Care to share?

Cheers! 🙂

Skinfood Gunnpang Nail No. 2

3 Apr

On days when I go to the mall and that I have to at least buy something, I almost always get a new nail polish even though I still have a lot of new and unopened bottles. After walking around Siam Paragon and browsing the shops, I went to Skinfood and grabbed a few bottles of nail polishes and the Gunnpang Nail is one of them (when I got home I realised I already have a similar hot pink but the old one was not in matte).

The bottle bears a Skinfood sticker/ seal to prove authenticity.

A Brief Review:

First Impressions: It is small and cutely packaged, bottled in a clear matte glass. It bears the Skinfood sticker so the product is genuine. The label is written in Korean except for the nail polish’s name. There is also a sticker in Thai language (since I cannot read Thai, I’m not sure what it was. It might be details about the product, too).

One coat of Skinfood Gunnpang Nail No. 2

Colour: Matte hot pink

Smell: None

Consistency: It is thick, creamy and dries fast because it’s a matte nail polish. It tends to be streaky and messy to apply (or maybe it’s just me) but applying a matte top coat smoothens it out. One coat is enough but I applied two layers and a matte top coat from the same brand. There was a little shine to the nails when I applied the top coat, which is alright with me.

After two layers and a top coat

Price: THB120 (approximately US$4)

Availability: There are a lot of Skinfood shops in Bangkok alone. There might be other Skinfood branches in other parts of Thailand.

Will I purchase again?: I already got another bottle in matte brown.

I just applied hand cream in this picture so my nails don’t look too matte.

What do you think, do they look matte to you? Are you a fan of matte nail polishes? Care to share?

Cheers 🙂
