Snapshots from Seoul: The National Folk Museum of Korea

30 Apr

One of the places we (our tour group) visited when I went to Seoul is The National Folk Museum of Korea. Located in the heart of Seoul and right next to Gyeongbokgung Palace, the national museum features over 98,000 artifacts and comprises of three exhibition halls.

According to the website, the Three Exhibition Halls are:

“1.) History of Korean People – which displays the representative materials of everyday life and customs in Korea from prehistoric to modern times.

“2.) The Korean Way of Life – which illustrates how Korean life of the Joseon period (1392-1910) revolved around the cycles of nature central to an agricultural society.

“3.) Life Cycle of Koreans – which traces the  major events in the life of  a Korean born into the upper class of Joseon (1392-1910)  society.”

The National Folk Museum of Korea also holds open-air exhibitions and special classes such as traditional crafts workshop and traditional music and dance for foreign visitors. There is also a Donation Hall to recognise those who have donated family heirlooms permanently to the museum as well as a souvenir shop where you can find books, replicas, artwork, fans, magnets, pens, and the list goes on…

Here are some of the photos I took. Apologies for the picture quality as camera flash is not allowed inside the museum halls. Please click the photos to enlarge 😉

I don’t have a lot of pictures because I forgot to take them as I read and looked through the displays.

I love museums and I am always fascinated by learning more about the history, culture and way of life of a certain place, country, group of people, etc.  What is also so awesome was the fact that the things I used to just see in historical Korean dramas were right before my very eyes.

It was also cool to be allowed to take pictures inside the museum 🙂 I hope you enjoyed looking through the pictures albeit not really complete and comprehensive (some pictures have my face :). My last “Snapshots from Seoul” entry is coming up… Guess what it will be about? 😉

Do you enjoy getting lost and immersed in museum exhibits? What’s your favourite museum? Care to share?

Cheers 🙂

It’s Skin Power 10 Formula VB Effector

29 Apr

If I can ask Snow White’s evil stepmother’s magic mirror who the oiliest of them all is, I am certain that he will reply that it is me. I know I am being exaggerated but I do have a really oily skin. Living in a hot and humid country makes it all worse. I have tried a few skincare products to find the solution for this problem but to no avail.

When I read about rave reviews of It’s Skin Power 10 Formula VB Effector in blogs, I know I have to get hold of it, too.

It’s Skin Power 10 Formula VB Effector with Vitamin B6 is “an oil-free essence containing B6 which controls the secretion of sebum. [It] also balances the natural moisture and oils…”

First Impressions: It comes in a cute plastic container that doesn’t take up much space on my dressing table. It also comes with a dropper so more brownie points for being hygienic. The white dropper also comes with a cap to avoid getting dirty or dusty. Oh, ingredients and directions for use are all in Korean so it should be hard to those who can’t read Hangul (but Google can do the trick :)).

Smell: The only thing I don’t like about this product is it’s smell. It’s really meant to be odourless but the scent reminds me of hospitals. It’s a combination of a sterile smell, disinfectant and medicines. It’s not heady, though and I think, I’ve gotten used to it already 😉

Colour and Consistency: It’s also colourless and oil-free so it’s not thick like your typical essences/ serums. It’s watery and light. Since its consistency is light, after application, it is quickly absorbed by the skin in probably three seconds. The VB Effector on the skin feels cool (not alcohol-cool) that you can feel the skin “breathe”.

Directions for use: I use this product after applying toner. (For me, just 3-4 drops of essence are enough for my entire face. ) I gently massage it on my face and pat my face after so the skin can absorb it more. I let it set for a few minutes before I apply emulsion/ moisturiser.

Results: I have been using it for more than a week now and I can attest that this product works. I usually get oily after 2 hours of make up application and this little wonder has helped me become less of a greaseball. I can stay oil-free after 4-5 hours! How awesome can it be! When I feel that my face gets shiny, I just use oil blotting sheets and voila, there’s not much need to reapply more makeup (I use powder sometimes, though). I also noticed that my pores have gone smaller and my skin got brighter (although, I’m not 100% certain that this is because of the VB Effector as I am using other skincare products that claim to do these wonders).

Availability: I got my VB Effector from Gmarket. I’ve seen a Thai website for It’s Skin but I haven’t visited the physical store.

Price: US$10 (+ shipping and duty) at Gmarket. It’s THB950 (approximately US$31) in Thailand (as per It’s Skin Thailand website)

Will I buy again?: Yes, I will and I recommend it.

I’m really happy I found and bought this. It really works wonder on my terribly oily face. I should have gotten more bottles when I made my last Gmarket order.

*It’s Skin is a South Korean brand and the Power 10 line has many variants to suit many different skin needs such as whitening, hydrating, moisturising, and more.

What oil control products do you use and work well? Care to share?

Hope your Sunday went well. Cheers 🙂

OPI Didgeridoo Your Nails & Nail Sticker

26 Apr

Hi everyone! I’m back 🙂 Sorry if I have been MIA for a few days. I have been sick 😦 but I’m feeling a little better now; I still have to undergo another test next week but hopefully, everything turns out good!

Anyway, I painted my nails with a brighter color this time and I used OPI Didgeridoo Your Nails. I know it belongs to an old OPI collection but I couldn’t resist its colour when I saw it at a drugstore in Siem Reap, Cambodia (lucky them, I don’t know where to find OPI here in Bangkok). I love the fact that it’s duochrome – fuschia with gold undertones that make it look a red orange at a different angle or lighting. The colour is not that loud and seemingly very cool to the eyes.

After a day, I decided to add nail stickers just to add a little accent (but it was really pretty by itself).  I used Nature Republic nail design sticker. What’s good about the sticker is that it sticks well and doesn’t feel that rough after a top coat.

In my opinion, it did not look too bad but I reckon silver doesn’t match well with the pink-toned nail polish. I did not mind, though 😉

Do you like using nail stickers? Do you use them often? Care to share?

Cheers 🙂

Weekend Haul at CentralWorld & Siam Paragon

22 Apr

Hi everyone! How did you spend your Sunday?

It’s a really hot today again here in Bangkok so after I heard Mass, I decided to go to CentralWorld and indulge in the mall’s free air conditioner and give mine a rest check out the USA Fair. There were booths ranging from American schools and airlines, to American Embassy and importers of American products. The products were on discount prices but as much as I want to hoard chips, chocolates and the like, I can’t because I recently had an acid reflux attack 😦 so I have to behave.

Anyway, on to my loot…

Bare Foot Softening Foot Lotion – Bare Foot Self-Warming Foot Scrub – Facial Peel-off Mask – Bare Hands Hydrating Hand & Elbow Butter – Feeling Beautiful Facial Clay Mask

I was really planning to buy the face masks at Boots but I can’t decide which one to get. I was happy I got them at a really good deal. I haven’t tried any of these products… I hope they work well. Have you tried any of them?

Finesse Volumizing Conditioner – Voortman Fudge Chocolate Chip Cookies – Finesses Volumizing Shampoo

I don’t know why I bought these three products but I grew up using Finesse shampoo and conditioner so I just want to smell and remember the good old times. Like I said, I can’t eat chocolates at the moment so I will just be sharing this pack to the office tomorrow 😉

I really wasn’t feeling that well so I did not make an effort to check out each of my favourite shops in the mall. On my way to the skytrain, I realised that I need to grab some soup, chicken and crackers so I went to Gourmet Market at Siam Paragon.

Aloe Vera Herbal Conditioner – Organic Virgin Coconut Oil – Aloe Vera Herbal Shampoo

I was glad I saw these three items. I was looking for fresh aloe vera because I recently have been experiencing hair fall so I should be using only herbal hair care products. I hope to see good results from using them. Do you use organic products as well?

The day went by fast and it’s back-to-work Monday tomorrow again! I hope you had a fun weekend. Are you looking forward to going to work tomorrow?

Cheers 🙂
